The 2011 Ford Explorer SUV features a contemporary design, increased fuel economy, improved driving dynamics and terrain management system, new safety features and an advanced integrated communications and entertainment system.

The 2011 Ford Explorer is expected to arrive in dealership in Winter 2010.
The new model has L-4 and V6 engines, improved efficiency, increased safety and a spacious and flexible interior.
Speaking about the project’s key ojcectives, Chief Nameplate Engineer Jim Holland commented "[the 2011 Ford Explorer] had to look modern and contemporary – inside and out – yet be instantly recognizable as an Explorer.

The clean design combines a contemporary exterior with a flexible interior characterized by a great storage capacity. The new SUV features more head and shoulder room and three rows of seating.

The model’s new features include a drivetrain with twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT), four-wheel drive, six-speed automatic transmissions and electric power-assisted steering (EPAS).
Contributing to the overall efficiency are the tires with reduced rolling resistance and the aerodynamics with harmonized front air dam and rear liftgate spoiler.

Compared to the previous model, the new Explorer has achieved weight savings of 100 pounds through the use of lighter materials such as an aluminum hood.
The standard unit is a 3.5-liter Ti-VCT V6 engine, delivering an estimated 290 horsepower and 255 lb.-ft. of torque.
The 4-cylinder 2.0 liter turbocharged and intercooled engine delivers a projected 237 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 250 lb.-ft. of torque from 1,700 through 4,000 rpm.

The vehicle’s safety benefits from the stiff unibody structure and range of active and passive safety features and technologies, including the world’s first second-row inflatable rear belts.
Available in three trim series levels – base, XLT and Limited – the Explorer offers a comprehensive set of features available as standard, including the MyForddriver connect technology with a 4.2-inch LCD screen, Media hub, cruise control.
The MyFord Touchdriver connect technology is available on the Limited trim level.
The 2011 Explorer will be assembled at Ford’s Chicago manufacturing facility. Production begins later this year, and Explorer will be available in dealerships this winter.
